What is the history of Dhari Devi Temple

A legend says that the temple was once completely destroyed by a great flood. Dharo stopped after hitting a rock near the village. Such is the recognition After which, the people of “Dharo” village heard the divine voice of the deity and installed the idol of Goddess Kali at the place where the temple is situated. After this incident it is known as Dhari Devi Temple. According to the priests, the idol of Mother Dhari was established in the temple from the Dwapar era itself.

While he was on tour, Adi Guru Shankaracharya took rest and worshiped in the temple area.

Another legend states that when Adi Guru Shankaracharya went for an expedition, he took some rest and worshiped in this area. If this is true then there is a possibility that this temple belongs to the Dwaparayuga era. The priests have placed the idol in the open sky. Devotees believe that the idol of the goddess should not be kept under the roof.

According to the local people, this temple of Maa Dhari was demolished in the year 2013. And his idol was removed from his original place. Because of this, there was a terrible flood in Uttarakhand that year. In which lakhs of people were killed.

The idol of Dhari Devi is believed to have been removed on the evening of 16 June 2013. And a few hours after that there was a disaster in the state. Later the temple was rebuilt at the same place.

 The festivals celebrated in Dhari Devi Temple?

Dussehra – It is also called Vijayadashami. It is a major Hindu festival. which celebrates the victory of good over evil. The day Lord Rama killed Ravana and established peace and prosperity. Worshippers burn an effigy of Ravana as part of a ritual.

Diwali- It is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated in India. Because this festival signifies the victory of good over evil, of light over darkness.

Kartika Purnima – It is a Hindu, Sikh and Jain cultural festival. Which is celebrated on the day of Purnima (full moon) or the fifteenth lunar day of Kartik.

By Road: Dhari Devi can be reached by several buses or taxis from Haridwar and Rishikesh. Dhari Devi Temple is about 145 km from Haridwar. To go from Haridwar to Dhari Devi, you will get the government bus, this private taxi. In which the bus fare is Rs 250 and that of taxi is Rs 300.
