Jagannath Puri Temple | Char Dham Yatra | Odisha Tourism

jagannath puri temple

Sri Jagannath puri temple is a Hindu sacred temple. Which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Shri Krishna) Bhagavan. His city is called Jagannathpuri or Puri.

One of the Char Dham temple is this one. In this, the three main deities of the temple, Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and Bhagini Subhadra, all embark in different grand and equipped chariots to visit the city.

About For Jagannath Puri Temple

Sri Jagannath puri was formerly known as Neel Maghava. Sardar Vishwas’ god was the Bhil. This festival has been celebrated with immense joy since the medieval period. In addition, this festival is celebrated in many Vaishnav Krishna temples in India, and the yatra is carried out.

The temple is associated with Vaishnava traditions and Saint Ramanand. For the Gaudiya Vaishnava sect, it is especially significant.

According to the traditional legend associated with the origin of this temple, this idol of God was seen in the dream to Malwa Naresh Indradyumna.

Then he did austerity and then Lord Vishnu told him that he should go to the beach of Puri and he would get a wooden log. He should build the idol with the same wood. The king also got a log of wood.

The king then appeared to him as Vishnu and Vishwakarma carpenter artisan and sculptor. But then they put a condition that they will prepare the idol in a month, but till then the room will be kept closed and the king or any other person will not come inside that room. Until the last day of the month, when there was no sound for many days

So the king peeped into the room and the old artisan opened the door and came out and told the king that the idols are still incomplete, his hands were not yet made.

On regretting the king, the sculptor told that now these idols will be installed and worshiped like this. Then the idols of the same three Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were installed in the temple.

The Temple flag that Defies Logic

Strangely, the flag a top the temple always flies in the opposite direction of the wind. Your scientific thinking comes to a halt when you see a flag flying in the opposite direction, and you begin to believe that there is a force greater than science.

The Sudarshan Chakra

The chakra itself is 20 feet tall and weighs a tone. It is attached to the temple. But what’s fascinating about this chakra is that it can be seen from any part of Puri city. The engineering puzzle around the placement and positioning of chakras remains a mystery since you can always feel that the chakra is facing you, irrespective of your position.

No Birds Fly above the Temple

No birds or planes fly above the shrine, which may surprise you. Any other temple in India, on the other hand, does not have such a feature. Actually, the location is a no-fly zone that has been declared by some divine force rather than by any political authorities. This phenomena, too, appears to be without explanation. It’s still a mystery to me.

Jagannath Puri Temple structure

The temple is built in such a way that it does not cast any shadows at any time of day. It’s still unclear if this is a technical marvel or a phenomenon that can only be explained by a divine force.

Mystery of Simhadwaram

The Jagannth temple has four doorways, with Singhadwaram serving as the main entrance. You may plainly hear the sound of waves as you enter through Sindhadwaram, but as you pass through Singhadwaram, simply turn around and walk back in the same way; you will no longer hear the sound of waves. In fact, as long as you are within the temple, you will not hear the sound of waves.

Temple Sea Mystery

You must have noticed that during the day, the wind from the sea blows toward the land, whereas in the evening, the wind from the land blows toward the sea. The geographical laws, on the other hand, are reversed in Puri. In this case, the exact reverse occurs.

History 1800 Year Old Ritual

A priest changes the flag every day atop the temple, which is as tall as a 45-story building. This custom has been observed for over 1800 years. If this ceremony is ever missed, it is believed that the temple will be closed for the next 18 years.

The Prasadam Mystery

Nothing is thrown away in Jagannath Temple. Records show that 2,000 to 20,000 devotees visit the temple each day, depending on the day. However, the amount of prasadam prepared in the temple remains constant throughout the year. The prasadam, on the other hand, is never wasted or insufficient on any given day.

This specific delicacy is prepared in pots over an open fire. This is done with seven pans, which are stacked one on top of the other. It’s worth noting that the contents of the topmost pot are cooked first, followed by the contents of the bottom pots.
